PROFIenergy helps maximize automation with reduced energy consumption

Automation users worldwide are driven to minimize energy consumption to cut costs and comply with stringent environmental conditions. Some of the methods used include switching off equipment manually to installing semi-automated shutdown systems. These are crude, expensive or hard to manage.What is needed is a stnadardized way to manage energy consuming devices over production networks, eliminating the need for external systems and delivering a solution that can be configured intelligently using existing automation equipment. The PROFIenergy profile enables control devices viz; PLC's to send commands to energy consuming units(ECU's)to signal pauses such as lunch breaks, holidays, random line stoppage or even peak load conditions. On receipt of PROFIenergy commands, software agents in the ECU's hardware initiate predetermined sleep modes for the duration of pause. PROFIenergy commands are generally initiated by the same controller as the automation process. However a dedicated energy management controller can be used. PROFIenergy is applicable to single devices such as actuators and remote IO's as well as complete subsystems such as paint lines. PROFIenergy enables the deployment of smart energy management. Emerson’s new Fisher VBL pneumatic volume booster, increases valve stroking speed

Emerson’s new Fisher VBL pneumatic volume booster prevents positioner saturation as it increases valve stroking speed. New booster design innovations enable fast valve response to rapid input signal changes.The new Fisher VBL booster incorporates a fixed deadband, internal soft seats and an integral bypass restriction that combine to eliminate the positioner problems typically caused by boosters without these design features. The new booster’s enhanced performance capability proves highly important in applications where a valve positioner alone cannot provide the stroking speed needed to meet rapidly changing process conditions and demands.The new booster design features internal soft seats that yield tight shutoff to reduce unnecessary air consumption and eliminate saturation of positioner relays.

Adding to the VBL’s superior performance is its bypass restriction that enables fast actuator response. The restriction also allows tuning valve response to follow slow signal changes or provide on/off control. This fine-tuning capability does not impact booster deadband.Compact and lightweight in design, the VBL booster features an aluminum body with ¼ NPT input and ½ NPT connections.
